Issues Management Manager
First Nations of Northern Manitoba Child and Family Services Authority
Pamala Logan, renowned as the Issues Management Manager with the Northern Authority, has spent her entire adult life passionately striving to make a positive impact in the lives of those touched by the foster care system and addiction. Born and raised with a personal experience of the challenges within the Child Welfare system, Pamala decided early on that she wouldn't merely be a spectator to the flaws of the system, but rather an active force for change.
As a young woman, Pamala began her journey by working with young adults who had aged out of foster care. Her commitment to providing support and guidance to this vulnerable group highlighted her dedication to ensuring that no child or young adult had to endure the scars of the Child Welfare system as she once did. Recognizing the broader issues at play, particularly historical trauma and the lack of resources for indigenous families, Pamala redirected her efforts towards addressing the root causes.
Pamala spent a significant portion of her career at a residential treatment facility, serving as the parenting coordinator for eight years. Here, she not only taught traditional parenting classes but also collaborated with Child and Family Services (CFS) agencies to promote reunification within the treatment program. Her focus was on assisting families in the healing process together, acknowledging the importance of familial bonds in overcoming the challenges posed by addiction and historical trauma.
For nine years, Pamala took on the role of a CFS Protection Supervisor, leading a team of social workers dedicated to the healing and reconciliation of indigenous families. During this time, she immersed herself in various communities, advocating for a more compassionate and realistic version of Child Welfare. Pamala's commitment to creating a kinder approach to child welfare stemmed from her desire to help parents heal and reunite with their families. Her work was not just a job; it was a mission to bring families back together and create a more supportive system.
Pamala's educational background further reflects her commitment to her cause. Armed with a BA and BSW, she also underwent Doula Training, showcasing her comprehensive approach to supporting individuals and families. Beyond her professional achievements, Pamala has walked the Red Road for 18 years, indicating her deep connection with indigenous spirituality. As a pipe carrier, she has actively engaged with her cultural roots, blending tradition with her commitment to healing.
