Northern Authority Participates in the 2026 AFN Annual General Assembly

The Northern Authority was honoured to participate in the 2026 Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Annual General Assembly in Ottawa, joining First Nations leaders, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, youth, government representatives, and organizations from across the country for three days of important dialogue, collaboration, and advocacy.

Throughout the Assembly, Northern Authority's CEO, Ron Monias, represented the organization in several meetings and discussions focused on advancing First Nations priorities. This included supporting the Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) and First Nations Chiefs from all the country during a press conference addressing Bill C-9, as well as participating in several side meetings with Chiefs, Elders, government officials, and other partners to discuss the future of First Nations child and family services and self-determination.

For the Northern Authority team, the Assembly was more than a conference, it was an opportunity to listen, learn, and bear witness to the ongoing journey of First Nations toward self-government and the exercise of inherent rights. We heard powerful stories of resilience, challenges, and determination from First Nations leaders and community members. These conversations reinforced the importance of continuing to work together to ensure First Nations have the authority to make decisions for their children, families, and communities.

The event also provided an opportunity to connect with attendees at the exhibition area, where the Northern Authority team shared information about the organization's work, distributed promotional materials, and spoke with visitors about career opportunities within our organization. These conversations helped strengthen relationships, increase awareness of our services, and introduce potential candidates to meaningful careers supporting First Nations child and family well-being.

We extend our gratitude to the Assembly of First Nations for creating a space where First Nations voices can come together to share experiences, celebrate progress, and continue advocating for meaningful change. Northern Authority remains committed to standing alongside First Nations as we work toward a future where children, families, and communities are supported through systems that reflect First Nations laws, cultures, values, and priorities.

Together, we continue moving forward with hope, partnership, and a shared commitment to strengthening First Nations self-determination for generations to come.
